Awesome for supporting clients experiencing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, adhd, axis 2 struggles, dual diagnosis counseling and as a start with depression. I bring this book into session, and most clients really like it. Very popular. As with any guide there is a certain amount of tailoring activities to each individual, and making tweaks here and there, overall a really impressive guide and base to mindfulness work. I like to use this a lot in support of CBT work and practice, as an introduction to therapy, as well as an ongoing support.After each exercise I use client feedback, during process time, to make minor improvements to certain exercises that need a tweak here and there. It's worth it to purchase.the paperback, due to the necessity of making copies and handouts for colleagues and clients alike. Great book to share with other therapists in the workplace too!!
I am a Counselor working in MAT treating adults with Opioid Dependence. This resource book has more information in it in one place, than any professional continuing education seminar. The book is laid out in a fashion where there is no flipping around for information. The information is easy to augment to any group therapy session. I had trouble for most of my time using the book with the Kindle format. I could not print the handouts. I was forced to type up what I needed. Then I got the idea of reaching out to the author. She is very accommodating, and timely with her emails. She provided open and friendly communication to solve this problem. I was able to obtain the pdf files for the book. She is a very trusting and forward thinking clinician. Please do yourself a favor, and get this title to support your professional and personal endeavors to create mindful moments.Thanks again for all the Help, Mrs. Burdick! I will provide updates to my progress with implementation now that I have keys to the entire process.-Mike J.
This book gives clear instructions for introducing and practicing a mindfulness program with others. It even offers ways to simply explain how mindfulness affects the brain. Research shows that many people with stress and/or mental health problems can benefit from midfulness execises. This book helps clinicians offer the opportunity to experience mindfulness to others and encourages clinicians to practice their own program of mindfulness regularly.
The content of the "workbook" is fine, but the construction of the book itself makes it utterly impossible to actually photocopy the so-called handouts. Why isn't this spiral bound? Or at least laid in such a way that the content you're trying to photocopy for handouts doesn't go all the way to the spine of the book? Short of using a razor to cut the pages out of the book to make decent copies, there is no work-around to solve this problem. What utter & absolute frustration!
This is a lovely book which I would give five stars but for the difficulty I had in getting printable copies of the worksheets with the Kindle version.I wrote Amazon customer service. The response was, in part, "Due to publishers restrictions you cannot get reproducible forms for these books as these books are in Kindle format. Amazon is just a seller platform for these books, the best person who can help you get these forms is the publisher of these books."I was surprised at how little help Amazon offered. Customer service did not even provide contact information for the publisher.The publisher was much more helpful. The rep told me to do a search in the Kindle book for "download." That will take you to a link to their site. Once there you can establish an account and download the forms. It works.
Really helpful for incorporating/reinforcing the didactic elements of DBT into mindfulness practice, and easy to use in a group setting. The explanations accompanying the mindfulness activities are not overly simple, but in my experience, at least, are concise and concrete enough that they're easy both for me to communicate and for clients to grasp. A wonderful supplemental text.
As a therapist and school counselor, I use this workbook to help reduce anxiety and it has help my clients and students tremendously.
It could not serve the purpose for which it was bought. I am a therapist and expected to be able to print handouts for my clients. I searched all over the Amazon web site and found no way to do what I wanted. the author was kind enough to send me a pdf copy. Now I am happy with her book. I recommend it. This type of workbook should come with a pdf copy if bought on kindle.
